Last Wednesday, June 10, the technical staff of the Giska Project carried out a specific action to control the ailant (Ailanthus altissima) at theCollegats-Boumort Natural Area.
The intervention focused on the removal of isolated branches of this tree to prevent it from entering the protected area. The ailanthus is one of the most invasive trees in Catalunya: displaces local flora and releases toxins that inhibit the growth of native vegetation.
To guarantee the effectiveness of the action and prevent it from regrowing, the extraction was carried out exclusively by manual means, ensuring the complete removal of the roots to protect the biodiversity of the area.
