New life in Garraf!
A little baby girl has been born, daughter of HOSTO. We have named her GENIL! With her comes a new collaboration and a new project.
Genil is part of a very special family: her mother, her aunts and the entire herd of Garraf ponies come from Lucy Rees' project in Piornal (Extremadura). They are completely wild ponies that, over time, have been socialized to allow safe management of the spaces they graze in the Garraf Park.
This breed, originally from the Basque Country, has extraordinary genetic value. They are horses that are particularly skilled in maintaining the balance of ecosystems and preventing forest fires. They stand out for their great rusticity and resilience, capable of adapting to all types of vegetation and conditions.
Genil is the daughter of Hosto and Txito, born just before Txito's vasectomy, a conscious decision to regulate the herd's birth rate. She is also the sister of Bosch, who was born shortly after the group's arrival in Garraf.
Its name, Genil, is not accidental. It celebrates a new collaboration and a new project that we are very excited about: the opening of an information point in the Pyrenees, on the north face of the Sierra del Cadí, in theHotel Font del Genil, a space that welcomes us and gives us visibility in this territory.
With Genil we celebrate not only a new life, but also the value of an ancestral genetic heritage and the essential role of these horses in caring for our landscapes.
